Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.

We are currently looking to fill a Part‑Time opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the Medicine Unit at Burnaby Hospital in Burnaby, B.C.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person‑centred care, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in acute inpatient areas.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment, then makes a nursing diagnosis and determines appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborates with patients and their families/caregivers in developing the care plan, encouraging family participation and supporting patient autonomy.
  • Participates in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring the care plan is established and updated effectively.
  • Coordinates nursing care for the patient; sets priorities, delegates tasks to support staff, and makes referrals to the interprofessional care team according to established protocols.
  • Collaborates with members of the interprofessional care team—including physicians, licensed practical nurses, patient care coordinators, clinical nurse educators—to identify and resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Teaches patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance.
  • Plans and discusses referral information with patients and families, initiating referrals to appropriate community agencies.
  • Documents assessments, diagnoses, observations, interventions, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participates on nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  • Engages in research and quality‑improvement activities by identifying patient‑care issues and recommending corrective action.
  • Participates in in‑services and other educational programs, maintaining current clinical competence.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students.
  • Provides feedback to management regarding patient‑care programs, policies, and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications – Education & Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practising registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
