Overview

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the comprehensive assessment of patients, initiating treatment, prescribing medication, and providing professional guidance within an interdisciplinary team. The role collaborates with patients and other health professionals to identify trends and implement evidence‑based strategies to improve health outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat patients for undifferentiated diseases and conditions within NP scope; write orders and provide first line emergency care.
  • Monitor ongoing care, order appropriate diagnostics, interpret results, and plan treatment.
  • Establish priorities for management of health conditions, communicate findings to patients and families, and support them in decision making.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other providers to assess, diagnose, and implement treatment plans, including admission and discharge decisions.
  • Prescribe drugs within statutory limits and employer policies.
  • Assign work to nursing personnel, evaluate performance, provide education and supervision, and manage staffing when required.
  • Engage in research to improve patient care and advance nursing practice.
  • Implement screening and health promotion activities for at‑risk populations.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary education through case presentations, mentoring, and facilitation of knowledge exchange.
  • Develop and evaluate policies and procedures related to nursing and health system practices.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.

    • Collaborate with physicians and other professionals and make appropriate referrals.
