Job Summary

Have an interest in working as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Columbian Hospital? What is a transition line you ask? Just that… an opportunity for nurses to transition and consolidate their skills with working in a speciality nursing area prior to and/ or completing their speciality nursing education post graduate course work within the agreed
-to time frames.

Critical Care Program is offered in two streams at Fraser Health:

  • In house Critical Ca reprogram(CCP) – offered 2-3 intakes a year. The program is about 12 weeks long in a full-time studies format.
  • BCIT Critical Care Program– offered in 4 intakes a year. The program is 37 weeks long (24 weeks online studies and 13 weeks full time studies format)

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person-centered care, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients.

The purpose of this position is to provide qualified registered nurses the opportunity to consolidate their skills by rotating through a specialty nursing unit(s) prior to and/or during the undertaking of post graduate course work applicable to the relevant specialty nursing unit(s). As such, successful applicants will be expected to participate in and successfully complete the applicable post graduate specialty nursing courses/program within the agreed-to time frames.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients and collects information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Makes a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determines whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention. Plans, performs and evaluates nursing interventions and care.
  • Collaborates with patients and their families/care givers in developing the care plan and encourages family participation in the development, implementation and ongoing modification of the care plan. Establishes a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust and respect, advocating for the patient's rights to privacy, dignity and access to information, and by ensuring the patient's choice and autonomy in decision making and care planning.
