Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are currently seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to join our Expense Management Engineering team. This role is available to candidates across Canada. If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

At Clio we strive to be both human and high performing. For Senior Software Development Managers that means growing and supporting a team of managers and individual contributors and also partnering with senior leadership to define the strategy and long term vision of their area of ownership. Our Senior Software Development Managers are highly technical and hands on, often coding, designing, and reviewing alongside their teams.

They coach and build their teams to be both strong technically and as team members. They create a safe and productive environment for all.

This role presents a unique opportunity to create a 'zero to one', AI-powered Billing Agent from scratch. You will lead the charge in using both machine learning and generative AI to build practical solutions that automate how our customers manage their finances. You'll be responsible for creating and executing a cohesive invoicing and billing strategy across multiple Clio products. Your work will be the foundation for how we scale these critical functions globally as we expand into international markets.

What

You’ll Work On:
  • Roll up your sleeves and deep dive into the technology & code to get things done and help managers & developers better understand what is possible.
  • Lead a growing team focused on Clio's core billing, invoicing, and expense portfolio.
  • Guide the technical strategy for innovation projects, including the development of an AI-powered billing agent.
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and collaborate with engineering managers and individual contributors who are in the thick of it every day.
  • Partner with leadership in Product Management and Product Design to envision, develop, and execute on our product roadmap.
  • Work closely with the Recruiting/People team to actively recruit and hire top talent to support Clio’s ambitious growth plans for its engineering department.
About you:
  • Experienced engineering leader who's still comfortable pushing code to production when necessary.
  • A background in Fin Tech, with direct experience in billing, invoicing, or expense management systems.
  • Adept at making critical technical decisions to guide your team and ensure the long-term health of the system.
  • Proven track record in scaling services and systems with experience in projects built for scalability.
  • Adept at managing and mentoring high-performing teams, nurturing talent, and guiding individuals toward professional growth and development.
  • Experienced in crafting long-term strategies and managing technical roadmaps that pave the way for future growth.
  • Successful running agile organizations at scale, with a sense of urgency to deliver quality software to solve customer problems.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting positive culture and diversity throughout a large engineering organization to achieve transformational change.

This role is a backfill for an existing position.
