If teaching group Pilates or Yoga classes is your passion, then look no further! Burnaby Recreation Centre’s are looking for enthusiastic individuals to lead group Pilates, and yoga classes. Instructors lead exercise programs for adults and seniors, focusing on no impact fitness, posture/alignment, proprioception, balance, core strength, flexibility, and breath and meditation. The incumbent will also perform related work as required.
Pilates instructors must have training and certifications from Physical Mind Institute, STOTT/Merrithew, Winsor Pilates or BCRPA Pilates. While Yoga instructors will come certified with a minimum of 200 hours in training courses through Yoga Alliance. Both instructors will have experience planning and leading Pilates, and/or yoga classes. Other related duties include communicating with program coordinators as well as program/equipment set up and tear down;
strong customer service and communication skills. Additional requirements include a First Aid certification and CPR Level
C. A Red Cross or Life Saving Society is preferred. This work is suitable to individuals seeking occasional and/or part-time work; preference will be given to candidates with prior experience exceeding six months.
In addition to the valid fitness certifications listed above, we are seeking those with experience and specialty certifications in the following areas: 500 hours of training courses through Yoga Alliance, Chair Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Children’s Yoga;
Pilates with Props, Power Pilates, Standing Pilates along with BARRE, Older Adult, and Osteofit. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.
Yoga Instructor, Level 1 - $38.23 + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Yoga Instructor, Level 2 - $43.70 + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Pilates Instructor, Level 1 - $36.76 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Pilates Instructor, Level 2 - $47.28 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Please note that the Instructors will be paid an additional 15 minutes for each class for set up, take-down, and customer service.

Hours of workHours and shifts will vary based on the recreation centres and Instructors will be scheduled based on operational requirements. This position does not provide guaranteed hours of work and may include on-call shifts. Due to the nature of the programs, schedules are subject to cancellations or modifications.
