Job Length: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, working predominantly on a Monday to Friday basis but flexibility required to work any 5 days in a 7 day period.

About the role:

As part of the Customer Supply Chain team, you will be accountable for ensuring that all transport operations across the nationwide network remain fully compliant with legal, safety, and regulatory standards. Leading the Primary fleet, you will safeguard operational integrity by overseeing training, monitoring adherence to policies, and embedding best practices that meet both internal and external requirements. Your role will be critical in maintaining seamless delivery to customers while optimising efficiency, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and oversee compliance across the Burton Primary Delivery Fleet in line with the Operator’s Licence, covering driver hours, licensing, vehicle safety, maintenance, and route adherence
  • Ensure fleet assets meet all legal requirements, including safe usage, wheel security, and compliance with height, width, and weight restrictions
  • Liaise with Fleet Services to manage compliance reporting, asset management, and documentation standards
  • Enforce Health & Safety protocols and Company Policy, ensuring all transport operations meet required standards
  • Maintain accurate administrative records, including tachographs, driver documentation, and vehicle/trainer legal files
  • Manage fleet maintenance providers and workshops to achieve compliance standards, schedule legal inspections, and resolve vehicle issues promptly
  • Ensure adherence to transport and environmental legislation, including fleet insurance management
  • Track and deliver site KPIs, budgets, and performance targets, balancing compliance with operational efficiency
  • Oversee driver performance and compliance evaluations, providing feedback and implementing improvement plans where needed
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in transport compliance processes, using data and insights to identify trends and strengthen decision ‑ making

Experience and Key Attributes:

  • Proven experience in Transport Management, with direct accountability for Operator Licence compliance, driver hours, asset safety, and fleet operations in complex, unionised, multi ‑ shift environments.
  • In ‑ depth knowledge of transport legislation, environmental requirements, and health & safety standards, ensuring full compliance across large ‑ scale operations
  • CPC National/International Road Haulage qualification (essential), combined with strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills
  • Senior ‑ level experience leading transport teams within large, complex operational settings, ideally in FMCG, drinks, or brewing sectors with time ‑ critical OTIF targets
