THE ROLE

The Foreman will work under the direction of the Superintendent to assist with the successful execution of the project through an understanding of scope and by actively engaging in the management of own forces and subtrade work. The Foreman is a key individual responsible for safety on site and for implementing the CANA Safety Program.

This position is required for an evening shift of Monday‑Friday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all subcontract and own forces work as safely, quickly, and efficiently as possible on site, scheduling and coordinating subcontract field forces and ensuring queries are answered.
  • Work with the Superintendent and other site staff in executing work in accordance with the project schedule, supplying information to update and monitor the schedule to ensure milestones are met.
  • Review and understand the scope of work and responsibilities of own forces and subtrade scopes of work.
  • Attend subcontractor site meetings and be engaged in active communication on site, ensuring the site is kept clean and all work is done in a safe manner. Manage material and equipment well.
  • Review specifications, design documents, and shop drawings to ensure work is carried out in accordance with them, incorporating all changes to the contract.
  • Complete detailed daily reports including manpower, temperature, weather, incidents, corrective action, hazard assessments, hot work permits, daily tasks completed, concrete volumes and mix designs, and other material delivery and shipping information.
  • Coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment on site, including booking of cranes, hoists, and loading areas, and oversee the tracking of rental returns and manage inventory logs.
  • Complete safety documentation, daily hazard assessments, FLHAs, engage with site inspections and investigations, hold trades and workforce to a high standard of safety, and enforce CANA Safety policy on site.
  • Maintain close attention to scaffold, fall arrest, and any overhead conditions on site.
  • Manage winter heat and hoarding, ensuring gas lines are checked and in safe condition.
  • Effectively manage crew time and tasks, including start, finish, and break times.
  • Track, enter, and submit daily manpower time entries.
  • Ensure the site is safe and secure at the end of every shift.
YOU WILL NEED
  • Journeyman Carpenter preferred; other project/construction management experience considered.
  • 2–5 years of commercial construction within a supervisory role.
  • Strong communication, leadership, integration, problem‑solving, interfacing, scheduling, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in software such as Procore for day‑to‑day site operations (drawings, deficiency lists, RFIs, etc.).
  • Effectiveness in construction safety and productivity, contractor management, construction planning and execution, project organization, and construction project controls.
  • Labour relations expertise in both union and non‑union environments an asset.
  • Professional conduct with internal and external customers.
  • Commitment to all facets of the role while working toward company goals and objectives.
  • Aware of policies and procedures and supportive of team members within the organization.
  • Ability to find information as needed in the OH&S regulations.
