We’re looking for a technically minded Industrial Designer who combines creativity with practical design-for-manufacture thinking. This is a broad and hands‑on design role that spans from early concept sketching to bringing products to market. You’ll work both independently on assigned projects and collaboratively with our in‑house Mechanical Engineering and Hardware teams, as well as with our external design and engineering partners.

You’ll contribute to the design of portable electronic IoT safety devices, gas detection equipment, and accessories—helping ensure our products reflect a unified brand identity through colour, texture, and form. You’ll also support packaging design, demo kit creation, and usability testing to deliver exceptional, field‑ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create early design concepts through sketching, 3D modeling, and rendering (Solid Works).
  • Develop and refine designs from concept to production, balancing user needs, manufacturability, and brand coherence.
  • Produce 3‑D‑printed mockups and prototypes to support design validation and usability testing.
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and external industrial design partners.
  • Design and maintain packaging systems, including boxes, labels, and inserts for new and existing products.
  • Develop demo kits, cases, and foam layouts for field and sales teams.

Support sustaining projects—reviewing design changes, material updates, and quality improvements.
  • Work with sourcing and procurement to identify and recommend appropriate accessories and off‑the‑shelf components.
  • Participate in testing and design verification, creating usability test plans where applicable.
  • Maintain and evolve the visual and functional consistency of Blackline’s product line and brand identity.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred (exceptional recent graduates will also be considered).
  • Strong sketching and ideation skills; ability to communicate ideas visually and quickly.
  • Proficiency in Solid Works for 3D modeling and rendering.
  • Hands‑on experience with 3D printing, model building, and rapid prototyping.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design‑for‑assembly principles.
  • Strong sense of form, proportion, and brand coherence.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow‑through.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

What Makes This Role Exciting This role offers the opportunity to see your designs move from sketchbook to field deployment—protecting real people doing critical work. You’ll join a collaborative, cross‑functional product team in a creative, hands‑on environment, supported by experienced

designers and engineers. It’s a balance of pragmatism and creativity—applying design thinking to real‑world safety and commercialization challenges.
