Alberta Precision Laboratories Ltd. (APL) in partnership with the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) at the University of Calgary (UofC), invites applications for a 1.0 FTE (full‑time) position with an academic staff appointment as the Associate Professor or Professor level with 0.3 FTE for Head, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine position.

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is the sole provider of lab services in the province of Alberta and is party to an affiliation agreement with the University of Calgary. APL performs over 30+ million tests annually providing laboratory tests for five acute care facilities in Calgary, one community laboratory and 9 rural health laboratories in Southern Alberta.
Job Summary & ResponsibilitiesThe contingent‑term appointment will be joint with APL and will include 50% protected time for academic work (including the Department Head role) and 50% time for clinical work.
This is a key leadership position within the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) with a collaborative partnership with the Sector Medical Director, South, APL. The successful candidate will be offered a contingent‑term appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The APL medical staff position is a contractor position with APL. Academic appointment will be offered as a UofC employee.
The successful candidate must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and turnaround times, must actively participate in quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
Qualifications- MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or by the American Board of Pathology in Laboratory Medicine.

- Ability to obtain the appropriate professional liability coverage.
- Effective communication, skills in quality assurance, operational efficiency and appropriateness of care.
- Ability to work in a dynamic changing environment that allows for delivery of quality service.
- Ability to balance service and quality imperatives in a resource‑sensitive environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively, building trust in working relationships, and being an overall team player.

An excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance is provided. Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of fellowship training and experience.
