Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety (RAMS) Lead, Rail & Transit

WSP is seeking an experienced and dynamic RAMS Lead to join our Rail Systems Engineering team. In this senior leadership role you will drive the development and implementation of System Assurance and RAMS strategies across major rail projects, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Strategic & Technical Leadership
    • Lead all RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) activities for commuter rail, light rail, high‑speed and subway projects, setting the vision and ensuring alignment with organizational and client goals.
    • Develop and implement Safety Management Systems and RAMS plans, guiding the team through complex technical challenges.
    • Develop, implement and assess quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, hazard analyses, and assurance audits, ensuring technical rigor and conformance with industry standards.
    • Develop and implement reliability and maintainability planning, including life‑cycle cost forecasting.
    • Support preparation for incident management planning, emergency/crisis management and operational risk acceptance.
    • Communicate with other engineering disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Track, Traction Power, Signaling, Communications, Rolling Stock, etc.).
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship
    • Mentor your own team of professionals and direct multidisciplinary teams.
    • Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers and specialists.
    • Promote a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders on RAMS and LCC matters.
    • Facilitate resolution of complex technical and operational issues.
    • Represent the organization in client meetings, industry forums, and audits.
  • Project & Resource Management
    • Plan and manage RAMS deliverables including scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and project managers to integrate RAMS requirements into overall project execution.
    • Drive incident management planning and emergency response strategies.
  • Organizational Impact
    • Shape the direction of RAMS practices within the organization.
    • Champion innovation and the adoption of new methodologies.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or eligibility for registration.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in RAMS/System Assurance technical leadership roles within the rail industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of rail systems with specialization in at least one key area (Electrical, Mechanical, Train Control/Signaling, Traction Power, Rolling Stock, Communications, Track Infrastructure).
  • Strong understanding of CENELEC, CMREA, MIL‑STD requirements throughout the project life‑cycle.
  • Experience with requirements management, validation & verification, testing, commissioning and trial running is a plus.
  • Experience with Safety Assessment is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
