Reporting to the Manager of Geological Optimization, the selected individual will work within a multi-disciplinary team that is focused on continuously optimizing SAGD pads currently operating across the Foster Creek and Christina Lake assets.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Expectations:
• Support the client’s short and long-term development plans that include:
- Well Surveillance
- Production optimization
- Providing geological properties for production-related forecasting
- Contributing to regulatory applications, scheme amendments, and directives
• Support workflow optimization projects with the intent of improving geoscience and reservoir engineering workflows and outputs
• Conduct resource assessments using integrated datasets that support production forecasts over the life cycle of a SAGD pad.
• Generate new ideas and opportunities to redevelop areas undergoing production that provide incremental value to Cenovus.
• Responsible for the interpretation of the observation well programs as they pertain to SAGD operations and interpret case hole logging (i.e. RST’s, piezometers, thermocouples, etc.) and steam chamber core results.
• Work closely with geophysicists to interpret 4D seismic and integrate steam chamber results back into the geological model.
• Characterize the reservoir using all geoscience datasets, incorporating production and conformance results and relating the findings to the geological model.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team to troubleshoot production and steam trends to maximize production and minimize SOR.
• Monitor the reservoir for issues related to reservoir containment.
Leadership Expectations:
• Mentor junior team members.
• Share learnings with peers.
• Initiate trials and studies to improve upon current best practices.
Qualifications
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
• Professional Geologist, accredited with APEGA
• 8+ years of experience is required
• Preference for SAGD thermal or other enhanced oil recovery experience in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan
• Experience in horizontal well planning and execution will be considered an asset
• Advanced level skills in Geoscience Technical Competencies with depth of knowledge of multiple geoscience disciplines
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and ability to influence others without authority
• Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to a diverse audience
