This position is part of the Lockheed Martin’s Aeronautics - Advanced Development Programs team also known as “Skunk Works”, specializing in the development and licensing of vehicle control station software for unmanned systems.
As a Flight Ops Technician you will be supporting the development and test of mission critical Software (SW) for the control and analytics of uncrewed vehicles and systems. Lockheed Martin Skunk Works Canada SW is deployed globally in Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS), Medium (Shadow RQ‑7), Large (Grey Eagle MQ‑1C), and high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) systems as well as surface vehicles and target systems.
As part of the Skunk Works team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on cutting edge next generation ground control system platforms as well as computer vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in the air and on the ground.
We’re looking for a Flight Ops Technician to play a critical role in supporting the development and test of mission critical SW for uncrewed vehicles. Primarily, Flight Ops Technicians support the development of these systems by testing the software on real world uncrewed systems in representative operational environments.
Job Summary /Key Responsibilities
- UxS Operation and Integration: Oversee the safe and efficient operation of small UxS in various environments (air, ground, sea), including flawless integration with other systems.
- Pre-Launch Checks: Conduct comprehensive pre-launch checks on all UxS hardware and software components to ensure mission readiness.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve any technical issues that arise prior to or during operations.
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret post-mission data to identify trends, anomalies, or areas for system improvement.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on evolving regulations and ensure all operations comply with local and international aviation authority guidelines.
- Development & Integration of New UxS Hardware: Support the selection, procurement and integration of UxS hardware to construct new UxS and payloads, as needed, including air, ground, sea surface and underwater systems.
- Contribute to Development of Training Programs: Support the development of operational training programs and documentation for delivery to customer users.
- Education: Technical diploma in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology. RPAS Certifications are a bonus.
- Certifications: Transport Canada Basic Small UAS with preference towards Advanced Small UAS.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience with small UAS operation, integration, and maintenance. Military UAS experience is a plus as is experience with ground, sea surface or under water systems.
- Problem‑Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement solutions effectively.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in UAS ground control software, flight planning tools, Linux, and data analysis suites. Familiarity with CAD software and scripting languages is beneficial. Experience with SITL/HIL test fixtures is a bonus. - Training Development: Experience in the development and delivery of training packages.
