Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world. Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Automation Technical Professional with a strong background in Yokogawa CENTUM VP and/or Pro Safe-RS. This position will be based in our Calgary office.

The Role

You will participate in the design and implementation of automation systems for oil & gas and process industry projects, engaging in all project phases—from front‑end engineering to commissioning. Responsibilities include supporting site surveys, FATs, SATs, and commissioning activities, as well as reviewing project schedules and cost estimates. You will assist procurement with vendor lists, requisitions, and technical evaluations, and travel to customer locations for project implementation (approximately 25%).

Typical responsibilities

The successful candidate will support local on‑site client activities, including off‑hours call‑out support if required. Hands‑on experience configuring Yokogawa CENTUM VP DCS and/or Yokogawa Pro Safe‑RS SIS is essential. On‑site activities will include program updates and troubleshooting.

  • Participate in automation engineering projects for the design and implementation of automation systems for oil & gas and process industry projects
  • Engage in all phases of automation projects: front‑end engineering, detailed design, procurement, configuration, implementation, startup, and commissioning
  • Work in areas such as DCS configuration, SCADA, HMI, SIS/FGS PLC programming and interfacing, architecture and networking, and specification development
  • Attend and support site surveys, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and commissioning activities
  • Review and provide input on project schedules and cost estimates
  • Support procurement with vendor list development, requisition preparation, technical bid evaluations, clarifications, and purchase recommendations
