OpportunityWSP is seeking an Intermediate Water & Wastewater Engineer to join the Water & Wastewater group with office locations in Edmonton and Calgary.
You will act as a design resource within the Water & Wastewater group on local and national water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of sectors including municipal and industrial. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in effluent reuse projects.
The Water & Wastewater Group in Alberta is a group of professionals ranging from 30 years of experience to one. This group is part of the national group to provide design and engineering services for clients with unique challenges at locations across the country.

- Work on assessments, planning, and design of innovative water and wastewater infrastructure projects, shaping community well-being and environmental stewardship.
- Develop PFD, P&, and control narrative.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality designs, reports, and cost estimates while navigating approvals and ensuring project excellence.
- Engage clients, sub‑consultants, and contractors, building strong professional relationships and ensuring successful project outcomes.
- Execute design of public sector municipal servicing projects including treatment facilities, process works, civil works, force mains, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, and feeder mains.
- Work in design teams comprised of senior, intermediate, and junior staff.
- Support all phases of construction, from fieldwork to contract administration.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, condition assessments, and permit applications.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technologists.
- Maintain client communications and liaise with municipal, utility and approval agencies.
- Hold a degree in civil, process, mechanical engineering, or environmental, and be eligible to apply for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in Canada.
- 7–12 years of relevant industry experience.
- Familiar with municipal and provincial approval processes, permitting, and Alberta environmental standards and guidelines.
- Proven ability to design and manage both horizontal and vertical municipal infrastructure projects, including project management, contract administration, and fostering client relationships.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, Revit, Micro Station, Water
CAD, Info Water, Sewer
CAD, Bio Win, SUMO, etc. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with keen attention to detail and ability to deliver innovative solutions under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills for fast‑paced multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficient in MS Office and MS Project.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Resourceful, self‑motivated and proactive.
