About Ecora

Ecora Consultants Ltd. is one of Canada’s fastest-growing full-service consulting firms, driven by our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community. With a multidisciplinary team and offices across British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario, we deliver integrated solutions in engineering, environmental sciences, planning, and natural resource management.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. This role is designed for a professional ready to take ownership of project delivery and technical analysis while growing their project management skills.

The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in geotechnical design, a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively. You will bridge the gap between field data collection and high-level design, supporting senior staff while providing guidance to junior team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Analysis: Conduct and coordinate geotechnical analysis and design for shallow/deep foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, excavations, shoring, and earthworks.
  • Numerical Modeling: Perform technical analyses using industry-standard software to support design recommendations.
  • Field Operations: Plan and execute geotechnical site investigations, including coordinating drilling and test pitting, supervising field staff/contractors, and ensuring accurate logging of soil and rock conditions.
  • Reporting: Prepare and draft comprehensive engineering reports, technical memos, proposals, and specifications for review by Senior Engineers.
  • Construction Support: Conduct site reviews and provide engineering support during construction to ensure adherence to design intent and quality standards.
  • Project Management: Manage small to medium-sized projects (or components of larger projects), including tracking budgets, schedules, and resources.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and feedback to Junior Engineers, EITs, and Technicians, helping to foster their development.
  • Compliance: Ensure deliverables meet municipal, provincial, and federal codes (e.g., BC Building Code, MMCD) and internal quality standards.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with civil, structural, and environmental teams to ensure geotechnical constraints are integrated into the overall project design.
  • Business Support: Assist in the preparation of proposals, work plans, and fee estimates.
  • Technical Proficiency: Utilize geotechnical software (e.g., Geo Studio suite—Slope/W, Seep/W; Plaxis; gINT) for analysis and reporting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering (with geotechnical specialization);
Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia (or an EIT with over 4 years experience who is immediately eligible for registration).
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably within a consulting environment.
  • Strong technical competence in soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, and site characterization methods.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (Geo Studio, Slide, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian geotechnical codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing technical reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and professional integrity.
