Oversight Engineer
Duration: 1 Year Contract
Location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB
Work Model: Hybrid – In-Office (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday);
Remote (Wednesday & Friday)
Travel: Approximately 25% to project work sites

Role Overview
The Oversight Engineer is responsible for managing engineering service providers (ESPs) and providing technical oversight throughout the full project lifecycle. This role ensures designs, materials, and execution meet regulatory requirements, industry codes, and Enbridge standards, while supporting safe, reliable, and cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage relationships and contracts with Engineering Service Providers (ESPs).
- Lead design reviews with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, applicable codes, and Enbridge specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure designs incorporate process hazard analysis, operability, and constructability considerations.
- Lead material specification and requisition activities, including reviewing vendor quotations, performing technical bid evaluations, and providing recommendations based on technical merit, cost, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to procure materials using internal procurement tools.
- Support project planning and scheduling during the design and procurement phases.
- Provide technical support across all project phases, including development, design, construction, and commissioning.
- Manage ESP deliverables, including incorporation of red-line markups into final as-built drawings.
- Support development of project scope, schedule, capital cost estimates, execution plans, and risk assessments during the project development phase.
- Support Operations with incident investigations following project handover.
- Review lessons learned from past projects and incorporate improvements into future designs, promoting a standardized and programmatic approach where possible.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience designing power distribution systems for oil and gas facilities.
- Hands-on experience analyzing control schematics and power equipment, including:
- Medium-voltage switchgear and motor control centers
- Electrical switchgear buildings
- PLC systems
- Medium-voltage VFDs
- Instrumentation (pressure and temperature transmitters)
- SCADA systems
- Experience with power distribution systems for cooling facilities is considered an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA, or eligibility to register.
- Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, facilitate, and influence decisions without formal authority.
- Strong working knowledge of national codes and industry standards, including CEC, NEC, API, IEEE, UL, and related standards.
