Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Alberta Environmental Services group is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment and Permitting Team. The team is based in Alberta, and while we embrace our core value that “we are better together”, we do offer flexible work solutions and hybrid work situations.
In this role, the successful candidate will provide support to all stages of a project’s lifecycle including assessment, permitting and approval requirements, construction support, and post-construction support. Working with our biological, physical sciences, human environment, and engineering teams, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading environmental assessments and permitting activities for a variety of projects. These projects will typically be in oil and gas, power production and distribution, urban land development, transportation and infrastructure and water and waste sectors.
Typical projects include small to large-scale provincial and federal pipelines, oil and gas facilities, and power-related projects (including renewables). We are always growing as we continue to adapt to the changing environment in which we work and are excited to work on several energy transition projects.

Your Key Responsibilities
Act as an internal subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to the approval and construction of midstream projects within Western Canada including cross borders (provincial and US)
Lead a project team of discipline experts
Drive project delivery with a key focus on efficient execution, project controls, and safety
Use sound judgement to solve and manage risks associated with project support activities
Work in a collaborative team of technical environmental specialists to lead the approval and permitting process
Prepare and review environmental assessments, regulatory applications and technical submissions
Contribute to proposals, pre- qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients
Communicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution
Support the development and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff
Participate in team and independent based work
Take part in on-the-job learning and professional development opportunities
Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all project phases
Your Capabilities and Credentials

Strong understanding of provincial (AB, BC) and federal regulations, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning needs
