EXP is seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer (Facilities) to join our expanding Calgary, AB office. In this role, you will work on a variety of challenging and dynamic projects within the energy and infrastructure sectors. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our clients’ projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest technical standards.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Lead and execute the detailed engineering and design of facility systems, including piping, meter stations, mechanical systems, and infrastructure, with a focus onshore natural gas and liquids pipeline facilities such as measurement and regulation equipment, pigging facilities, and mainline valves.
  • Develop project scopes, conceptual designs, engineering calculations, and ensure all deliverables meet quality and technical standards.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, technical specifications, and procurement documents.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including vendors, contractors, and clients, to align on project goals and deliverables.
  • Design pipeline facility systems including pipeline interconnects, block valve settings, odorization systems, pressure relief systems, measurement and regulation stations, and I&C, ensuring compliance with applicable design codes and client specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and risk analyses for proposed projects.
  • Provide technical oversight during construction, including responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and ensuring alignment with design specifications.
  • Manage project scoping and coordination tasks, including kick-off meetings, design reviews, and RFI submissions.
  • Execute advanced design tasks, such as hazardous area classifications, stress analysis, material takeoffs, and code compliance reviews.
  • Complete pipe sizing and wall thickness calculations in accordance with client specifications and industry standards.
  • Develop and review 3D models, including location plans, site layouts, and P&IDs.
  • Prepare comprehensive drafting and drawing deliverables, including isometric views, piping support details, and section views.
  • Direct and coordinate with multiple disciplines and drafting teams to develop PFDs, P&IDs, site plans, piping section, and isometric drawings, resulting in comprehensive construction drawing packages.
  • Conduct site inspections to validate designs and resolve technical issues.
  • Track schedules, budgets, and progress to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, and civil components.
  • Apply working knowledge of pipeline routing methodologies, crossing techniques, alignment sheets, and construction best practices including pipeline survey integration.
  • Utilize deep familiarity with CSA Z662, PHMSA CFR regulations, API, and ASME standards to ensure compliance across pipeline design, materials selection, and facility installation.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
