Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is a key player in public safety. We are responsible for the supervision and reintegration of offenders serving sentences of two years or more. On a typical day, we manage approximately 15,000 offenders placed within our 43 institutions and more than 8,500 offenders under supervision in the community.

Intent of the process

CSC will review applications received on a regular basis and contact applicants who meet the essential criteria (occupational certification and experience) for further assessment based on the needs of the institutions. It is therefore important that you indicate all the locations where you want to work.

The candidate qualified pool resulting from this inventory may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate (anticipatory), term, or casual basis.

Information you must provide

Essential qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION: Registration as a Social Worker with a provincial registering/licensing body.

EXPERIENCE: Experience in providing Social Work services to clients in mental health settings or correctional settings.
Experience working independently with minimal clinical supervision.
Experience working as part of an inter-disciplinary team.

Other qualifications (Asset)

EDUCATION: Graduation with a Master’s degree in Social Work from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in social work.

EXPERIENCE: Experience in the provision of Social Work services to culturally diverse populations.
Experience providing Social Work services in community mental health, medical, acute or forensic settings.
Experience providing crisis intervention services.
Experience establishing, developing and managing productive and cooperative partnerships with community-based services.
Experience providing Social Work services to vulnerable populations.
