Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Rehabilitation, Social Work and Spiritual Care staff.

These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will gain experience in the assessment, treatment, education and management of patients across a variety of areas including general medicine, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, intensive care and vascular surgery including amputee rehabilitation.

At all times the Physiotherapist I will ensure that his/her practice is evidence-based and meets physical therapy clinical standards of practice. To be successful in this role, you will possess an understanding of how patients and family are at the center of care strategies to build inclusive environments that reflect the needs and supports required for the populations that we serve (ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons of all age groups).

Responsibilities
  • As the Physiotherapist I (PT), provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline.
  • Deliver interventions including prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities.
  • Include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.
  • Collaborate with patients and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies.
  • Participate in interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partner with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and the professional community; participate in peer mentoring; supervise students; may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    :
    Bachelor s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
  • Additional Required Qualifications
    :
    Relevant experience working in an adult acute care setting within the last 3 years. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with colleagues, interdisciplinary team, patients and families. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care setting. Demonstrates behaviours consistent with the values of AHS – Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety.

    Job demands involve a high level of physical effort related to clinical caseload including standing and up to a medium level of work (20-50lbs) with client transfers or therapeutic intervention. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    :
    Experience in a large urban acute care setting within the last 5 years; experience in Orthopedics, General Medicine, and Critical Care; experience working with diverse communities;
    Connect Care training is an asset; understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
