CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) is a nonprofit organization that provides settlement and integration services to all immigrants and refugees in Southern Alberta. Since 1981, we have been a community leader with extensive experience in designing and delivering comprehensive services for newcomers. Our services are provided through a diverse, multi-cultural, multi-denominational, and multi-disciplinary team of professionals speaking over 90 languages.
From airport reception to first job interviews, CCIS’s programs support immigrants and refugees through all settlement and integration phases. We are committed to serving individuals of all races, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
CCIS – Family and Children’s Services (FCS) Division
The FCS division adopts a holistic, strength-based approach to facilitate family and children's integration into the community, enhance services through community resources, and promote healthy development.
Job SummaryCCIS is recruiting on-call interpreters fluent in English and the following languages:
- Badini, Igbo, Norwegian, Tagalog
- Bosnian, Indonesian, Odia, Telugu
- Cantonese, Karen, Polish, Ukrainian
- Czech, Konkani, Rohingya, Yoruba
- Danish, Korean, Romanian, Swahili (East)
- Dinka, Kurmanji, Russian, Swahili (Kenya)
- Hausa, Marathi, Sorani, Urdu
- Hungarian, Mon, Swahili (East), Yoruba
- Provide interpretation/translation services in various settings, including community, medical, legal, business, and education.
- Build strong relationships with clients and immigrant families.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity.
- Attend meetings across Calgary, in person and online.
- Support program promotion and contribute to its success.
- Foster an inclusive work environment through effective communication and positive relationships.
- Collaborate with community-based services.
- Proficiency in English and the target language.
- Certification, memberships, training, or experience in interpretation.
- Experience in interpretation services.
- Ongoing education to enhance interpretation skills.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a positive attitude.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record, as travel is required.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Active liability insurance coverage.
- CILISAT / ATIA membership is an asset.
- Recent criminal record check with vulnerable sector search (less than 90 days old).
