Job Overview

Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, The Millwright is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding Heritage Park’s vintage midway and mechanical equipment (including small appliances and large vehicles) to ensure safe and reliable operation across the Park. This role combines advanced technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and project coordination to support the Park’s operational excellence and visitor experience.

Working with minimal supervision, the Millwright applies professional-level mechanical judgment to complex systems, collaborates with other trades, and provides mentorship to apprentices and junior staff. This role involves collaboration with internal teams and external contractors to ensure the smooth operation of all mechanical systems, including streetcars, tractors, and grounds equipment.

Responsibilities Mechanical Maintenance
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of vintage midway and mechanical systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and authentic operation.
  • Collaborate with the Master Electrician on streetcar and ride maintenance, integrating electrical and mechanical work as needed.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on small equipment (e.g., kitchen appliances, ovens, blenders, mixers) and large vehicles (tractors, bobcats, skid steers, and grounds equipment).
  • Carry out dry dock operations, including hydraulic pump servicing, metal work, and fabrication.
  • Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on heavy‑duty and specialized vehicles, working independently or under direction from the Director of Facilities.
  • Manage and document regulatory inspections and testing for the Midway, ensuring compliance with ADERSA and other applicable codes.
  • Partner with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor on setup, takedown, and rebuilding of midway equipment for seasonal operations.
  • Support the Director of Capital Planning and Special Projects in evaluating, procuring, and integrating new mechanical systems or equipment for the Master Plan.
  • Communicate effectively with internal clients, contractors, and vendors to coordinate maintenance work, procurement, and scheduling.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and high‑priority tasks, ensuring timely, efficient resolution.
  • Contribute to project scheduling and resource planning to minimize operational disruption.
  • Assess availability and sourcing of specialized or obsolete parts, coordinating with suppliers or manufacturers to reproduce hard‑to‑find components.
Technical Leadership and Team Support
  • Support the skill development of apprentices and junior trades staff through hands‑on guidance, demonstrations, and cross‑training.
  • Observe and provide constructive feedback to ensure safe work practices and adherence to Heritage Park’s standards and procedures.
  • Contribute input on apprentice progress and performance as part of training evaluations.
  • Foster a team‑oriented environment that emphasizes collaboration, learning, and mutual respect.
