Registered Nurse (RN) – Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre
Cancer Care Alberta is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the inpatient team at the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (AC). Reporting to the Manager of Hematology, the RN will provide acute medical care within the specialty program of Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant, in a fast‑paced and rapidly changing acute care environment.
The successful RN will leverage adaptability and critical thinking to thrive, working within a dynamic interdisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive care. The role includes growth and leadership development activities such as preceptorship, clinical trials, and ongoing professional development.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, ensuring safety and well‑being. You will:
- Utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
- Teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and families.
- Play a leadership role supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
- Provide safe, quality patient‑ and family‑centered care reflecting AHS values.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
- Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification.
- If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past 5 years, completion of the following free courses prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1‑4) and NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience (including new graduates with related practicum or preceptorship training in acute care).
- Central venous access devices (CVAD) certification and/or experience.
- Self‑directed, independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Physically able to stand, walk for extended periods and push, pull, lift to provide patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Central venous access devices (CVAD) certification and/or experience.
- Physically able to stand and walk for extended periods, push, pull, and lift.
- Experience in Oncology, Hematology, or Blood and Marrow Stem Cell infusions within the last 3 years.
- Chemotherapy certification.
- Experience with care of neutropenic patients in the last 3 years.
- Connect Care (Epic) computer training, certification and/or experience.
