Your Opportunity:
The Day Surgery/Surgical Short Stay team at the PLC invites a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to partner with our multidisciplinary team in delivering inclusive, high‑quality surgical care. In this role you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient and family care, provide education, advocate for patients, lead peer education, engage in discharge planning, and contribute to research and practice improvement initiatives.

• Provide safe, quality patient‑and family‑centered care across all surgical pathways.
• Lead and mentor nursing staff, ensuring evidence‑based practice and strong communication.
• Collate and deliver patient education and discharge planning for day‑surgery and short‑stay patients.
• Advocate for patient safety, inclusive care, and equitable access for all populations.
• Participate in clinical research, quality improvement and best‑practice dissemination.

Required:

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP).
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in a day‑surgery unit (within the last 3 years).
• Proficiency in IV certification and medication administration.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of Connect Care and Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity training is preferred.

Preferred:

• 3+ years as an LPN in an acute inpatient surgical setting.
• Experience with Connect Care, Indigenous Awareness, culturally‑safe practice and diverse populations.

• Unit: 22/23 Day Sx/Short Stay
• Location: Peter Lougheed Centre
• Salary: $27.58 – $36.13 per hour
• FTE: 0.80 (full‑time equivalent)
• Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends
• Shifts per cycle: 16 over 4 weeks

Temporary employee class with benefits including health, dental and pension plans, available for the period of 12‑month contract with possible extension upon performance.
