The OpportunityThe
Trojans Capture the Flag (CTF) Coach will lead SAIT’s cybersecurity competition team–an innovative extension of the Trojans Club program menu of student engagement opportunities. Modeled after the Trojans Esports framework, the Cyber Trojans compete in national and international CTF competitions, providing students with real-world cybersecurity experience, teamwork, and
leadership development opportunity. Our CTF Coach is responsible for supporting students as they work through competitive cybersecurity challenges, support
hands-on learning aligned with academic initiatives, while fostering a positive, inclusive
team environment consistent with SAIT FIRST principles and the Trojans pillars of Courage, Determination & Spirit.
The Role
Key responsibilities and major duties include, but are not limited to:Program Management SupportLead the development, organization, and management of SAIT’s Trojans Capture the Flag (CTF) cybersecurity teamAssist with all team related activities along with support from Trojans admin & assigned sport coordinatorCoachingCreate an environment that is aligned with SAIT FIRST principles and fosters holistic growth of student athletes & staffCreate a culture of excellence that motivates athletes & staff to strive for their best in all aspects of being a part of Trojans programmingCreate and facilitate regular team practices and training sessions within the SAIT Cyber RangeWork directly with Head Athletic Therapist to ensure YTP is conducive to injury prevention & peak health throughout the seasonAdministrationAdhere to all Trojans & league requirements regarding athlete onboarding each season (Transfers, LOIs, Nominations, Required training/education sessions etc.)Adhere to SAIT policies, procedures and protocols including p-card purchasing, web time entry, mandatory Safe Sport training, facility access controls, presentations, brand alignment and respectful workplace related expectationsTeam scheduling, planning and structuring including communicationsSubmit required documentation in a timely fashionMaintain communication platforms (, Discord, Teams, or other collaboration tools) to support team coordination and engagementEDI, Safesport & SAIT EngagementCollaborate with academic departments to align CTF learning opportunities with SAIT’s cybersecurity programs and curriculumSupport & promote SAIT & Trojans initiatives not directly tied to athletic pursuitsAdvancement of a #wearetrojans mentalityQualifications & Experience Required
Competed in or coached teams for CTF CompetitionsKnows how to prioritize challenges during competitionsFamiliarity with common CTF platforms ( CTFd, kCTF, Root The Box , Hack The Box , Try Hack Me )Ability to develop realistic and challenging problems for practiceComfortable guiding students through live problem-solvingStrong leadership to motivate and organize the team effectivelyProficiency in offensive security ( penetration testing, exploit development, and red team tactics)Reverse engineering & binary exploitation experience ( ability to analyze compiled code, debug, and craft exploits)Understanding of modern cryptographic algorithms and common weaknessesExpertise in application security (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, and advanced web exploitation)Skills in forensics and incident response ( memory analysis, disk forensics, and log analysis)Strong understanding of network infrastructure/protocols ( TCP/IP, packet crafting, and network attacks)Familiarity with AI, cloud security, container exploitation, and IoT hackingPreferred Qualifications & Experience
Post-secondary credentials in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related fieldCertifications such as OSCP, GPEN, CEH, or equivalent practical experienceJob classification: A9000 - Pooled Wage Position
