Lifeguard & Swim Instructor (Part Time)

Salary: $16.40/hour -$20.15/hour

The successful candidate will have availability to work Wednesday PM, Thursday PM, and Sunday AM shifts.

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidates will have the following;

National Lifeguard - Pool certification

Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations:
Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.

YMCA Swim Instructor, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, or Swim for Life Instructor certification

Lifesaving Instructor would be considered an asset

Should be able to work evenings and weekends

Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search

Three professional references

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors will:

Ensure a safe aquatic environment by following National Lifeguard standards and/or YMCA Policies and Procedures

Demonstrate exceptional customer service

Are knowledgeable of YMCA programs and services

Complete administrative tasks, update class rosters, lesson plans, check equipment, clean equipment, perform light maintenance tasks when not guarding or instructing

Perform all scheduled water tests

Keep pool area clean and organized

Respond to emergencies according to National Lifeguard standards and/or YMCA Policies and Procedures

Work as a team; communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and members in all situations.

Attend all scheduled in-services

Attend all necessary YMCA training

As a Lifeguard, they must be alert at all times in order to prevent and respond to emergencies. All aquatics staff may work in the presence of chemicals in order to maintain a clean and healthy aquatic environment.
