Strength & Conditioning Instructor (Part Time) — Shawnessy YMCA

Start Date:

Immediately

Salary:
Strength and Conditioning Instructor: $16.40/hr - $20.15/hr (commensurate with education and experience)

Availability:
Evening, Weekends, Fridays from 5:15am - 10:00am, Saturdays 6:45am - 12:30pm

Qualifications

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a good fit based on strengths, interests, and goals. The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor of Physical Education, Kinesiology or related degree preferred
  • Experience in a fitness or exercise related field as a personal trainer
  • Group Fitness certification and experience in Group Strength, Older Adult, Cycle, Yoga, Cardio is considered an asset
  • Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months)
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references required
Role and Expectations

The Strength & Conditioning Instructor will:

  • Provide excellent customer service by identifying the needs and wants of members/participants and responding effectively and promptly
  • Perform program and instructional duties as outlined by the Health & Fitness Supervisor
  • Provide leadership to member special events and workshops/presentations as outlined by the Health & Fitness Supervisor
  • Assist with the supervision of all volunteers working in the conditioning center
  • Show members how to use cardio equipment and strength and conditioning machines
  • Maintain a strong presence on the floor, engaging with and assisting members and providing orientations while modeling positive behaviors
  • Use the Engage more tool to facilitate meaningful and goal-focused relationship-building with members
  • Encourage participation in activity challenges and events
  • Solicit member feedback regarding the YMCA and facilities
  • Identify members who need an orientation program or follow-up
  • Ensure the conditioning centre’s equipment is clean, in good repair, and safety hazards are removed
