As a Medical Technologist with VCH you will:
Be responsible to provide technical leadership and expertise in the provisioning of Laboratory and Diagnostic Services for the Central Coast (Bella Coola/Bella Bella).Participate in the planning and coordination of services; monitors the quality of technical work performed to ensure departmental standards are met and safety procedures are followed.Schedule staff activities and participates in recruitment and performance management; trains and coaches team members.Facilitate workplace solutions and the implementation of new techniques and procedures.Perform a variety of routine/complex tests utilizing manual and automated procedures/instruments, when required.Supervise designated staff. Education & Experience
Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).Bachelor of Science degree or an Advanced Registered certificate or completion of a supervisory/management program plus a minimum of five (5) years’ recent, related experience including two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Regular travel within the Central Coast is required. Expenses will be reimbursed as per the Collective Agreement.Knowledge & Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge and recent related experience in related discipline.Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Laboratory Technologists established by the CSMLS and/or other relevant national professional associations.Demonstrated ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, medical personnel and other health care staff.Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment and to organize and prioritize competing demandsDemonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with othersDemonstrated ability to coach and deal with others effectively in a supportive and positive manner.Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.Demonstrated ability to manage own learning to meet future challenges within the organization.Basic knowledge of computerized systems relating to the laboratory.General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Skill in the operation of related equipment and in techniques appropriate to the laboratory.Closing Statement
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
