Job Knowledge

, Skills and Experience

Lecturer:

  • Masters in either Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. All underpinning qualifications must be in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2-years relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2-years industrial experience in Maritime .
  • Seagoing Certificate of Competency Class 1 or Class 2 or EOW A minimum of 12 months' sea time after the date of issue of the CO, in rank as 2nd Engineer.
  • A registration with a relevant professional body is recommended.
  • Junior Lecturer:

  • A Postgraduate Diploma /Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Honours) /PG Dip/ NHD /BTech degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2-years relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2-years industrial experience in Maritime.
  • Seagoing Certificate of Competency Class 1 or Class 2 or Class 3. A minimum of 12 months' sea time after the date of issue of the CoC.
  • A registration with a relevant professional body is recommended.
  • Important notes:

  • Preference will be given to an appointment at the higher level.
  • Successful applicants for the Junior Lecturer post to commit to studying towards and completing Masters within 5 years of appointment.
  • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    Assisting with the coordination of all academic activities relating to, but not limited to:

  • Bachelor of Marine Engineering.
  • Teaching & learning.
  • Curriculum development.
  • Academic development.
  • Academic administration.
  • Conducting research.
  • Participation in SAMSA/EMSA/CHE or any other accreditation.
  • Participation in Quality Assurance activities.
  • Participation in Industry Advisory Committees & partnerships.
  • Personal & professional development.
  • Assisting with WIL and planning of service-learning initiatives.
  • Assisting with recruitment, admissions & marketing as is reasonably required by the HoD:
    Maritime Studies & Survival Centre.
  • Familiarising and incorporating utilisation of the onsite Simulator in training programs.
