What You'll Be Doing
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments.
- Monitor performance, apply patches/upgrades, and optimise queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
- Implement and maintain database security (roles, permissions, encryption).
- Perform regular backups and recovery procedures; automate tasks using Power Shell or scripting.
- Collaborate with developers on schema design, query optimisation, and CI/CD integration.
- Troubleshoot application-related database issues and maintain strong change-control practices.
- Define and enforce data access policies in line with GDPR and compliance standards.
- Act as escalation point for database-related incidents and provide best practice guidance.
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA (SQL Server 2016+).
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, and SQL Server Agent.
- Experience with performance tuning, HA/DR strategies, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate, Solar Winds DPA, SQL Sentry).
- Hands-on expertise in CI/CD integration and automation (Power Shell, Python).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure.
Minimum qualifications
Education:
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent (NQF Level
4) - essential - IT-related tertiary qualification (e.g. Diploma or Certificate in IT, Computer Science, or Information Systems) - preferred
Certifications:
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server, Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Experience with cloud-based databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
- Knowledge of No
SQL or other database technologies (advantageous). - Familiarity with Dev Ops practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience:
- 3+ years' experience in SQL DBA roles within MSP or multi-tenant environments.
- Regional or global support experience, ideally in an AMS environment.
- Experience supporting production databases for critical business applications (ERP, CRM, finance).

Job Expectations
- Location:
Cape Town, South Africa. - Working Model:
Office-based with alignment to CET business hours. - Working Hours:
Standard Cape Town hours with required overlap with UK/Europe operations. - On-Call:
Participation in after-hours maintenance or incident response rotation as required.
