Cosmetic R&D Chemist

A company in the Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic industry is looking for a Cosmetic R&D Chemist to join their team in Cape Town. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Design, develop, and refine innovative skincare formulations. Research and evaluate new / alternative raw materials, active ingredients, and innovative delivery systems for performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainability. Conduct lab-scale batching, optimize manufacturing procedures, transition formulas from R&D bench to manufacturing scale. Conduct and manage performance, efficacy, and compatibility testing of formulations & packaging. Ensure all formulations meet internal quality standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Maintain meticulous and accurate formulation records, test results, and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Work with the Regulatory Team to ensure compliance for target markets. Compile sell-sheets, USP summaries and trial evaluation forms for new and existing products. Provide technical guidance and support to the R&D Team and other internal departments.

Key Requirements: BSc Chemistry or related degree with 3-5 years’ hands on experience in formulation within the skincare or cosmetic industry. Cosmetic Science Qualification highly desirable. Ability to formulate, troubleshoot, and scale-up various skincare systems and products.

Additional Requirements: Ability to work on various projects simultaneously with attention to detail and timelines. Excellent communication skills and the ability to write reports. Computer literate.
