We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team in the water and utilities sector. This role will play a key part in the commercial and contractual management of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, ensuring accurate cost control, compliance, and commercial efficiency in line with NEC contract frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all quantity surveying functions across assigned projects, from pre-contract to final account.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including change control, early warnings, and contract option selection.
  • Prepare accurate cost forecasts, valuations, interim payments, and final accounts.
  • Draft and agree subcontractor terms with new subcontractors.
  • Manage the weekly P&L process and monitor contract costs until mobilisation.
  • Support procurement, assist with onboarding new suppliers, and manage subcontractor accounts.
  • Assist with the implementation of a new commercial reporting system.
  • Monitor and report on project budgets, costs, and financial risks, producing monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations).
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Work closely with project managers, design teams, and finance to support project planning and commercial performance.
  • Liaise with client commercial teams to maintain strong relationships and ensure contract compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, legal obligations, and industry regulations (e.g., Ofwat standards).
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS in civil engineering, utilities, or water infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts and their practical application.
  • Solid understanding of construction law and commercial best practices.
  • Experience in cost management, financial reporting, and P&L monitoring.
  • Confident in leading commercial negotiations with clients and suppliers.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
Desirable
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • MRICS or working towards chartership.
  • Experience working on AMP7 / AMP8 projects within the UK water sector.
