• Ensure risk management processes are in line with CDM 2015 and deliver design management plans, risk registers, and other documentation.
• Work closely with the project team to ensure all aspects of the Principal Designer role are performed.
• Assist Designers in applying the Principles of Prevention to design out risks and hazards to the extent reasonably practicable.
• Assist the Client with the provision of Pre‑construction Information.
• Provide Pre‑construction Information to all Designers and Contractors.
• Prepare the Health and Safety File.
• Pass the Health and Safety File to the Principal Contractor or Client as appropriate.
• Attend site to establish pre‑construction conditions, site layout and collect or assess extents of prior H&S/O&M, site risk manager information.
• Review and support the transfer of risk information from the design team to enable CPP development; review CPP for initial start‑up and risk assessments.
• Conduct safety audits on a regular basis to monitor progress and statutory compliance on site, with monthly reporting.
• Implement near‑miss and accident reporting mechanisms and databases in line with client process.
• Support continual improvement programme; promote lessons‑learnt sessions for the Project Team to improve engagement and H&S awareness at all levels.

• NEBOSH Diploma or Construction Certificate (or higher) or equivalent health and safety qualification.
• Experience acting as CDM Principal Designer on medium to large projects.
• Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider construction health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills, with ability to lead meetings and engage confidently with clients, designers, and contractors.
• Proficient in preparing pre‑construction information, design risk registers, and Health and Safety Files (CDM Documentation).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective time management and organisation.

• Degree or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline or civil engineering.
• Experience with National Grid Transmission in the capacity of Principal Design Representative, or a comparable role within a similar sector.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, APS, RIBA, ICE, CIOB, CABE).
