Key Responsibilities- Ensure risk management processes are in line with CDM 2015 and deliver design management plans, risk registers, and other documentation.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure all aspects of the Principal Designer role are performed.
- Assist Designers in applying the Principles of Prevention to design out risks and hazards to the extent reasonably practicable.
- Assist the Client with the provision of Pre‑construction Information.
- Provide Pre‑construction Information to all Designers and Contractors.
- Prepare the Health and Safety File.
- Pass the Health and Safety File to the Principal Contractor or Client as appropriate.
- Attend site to establish pre‑construction conditions, site layout and collect or assess extents of prior H&S/O&M, site risk manager information.
- Review and support the transfer of risk information from the design team to enable CPP development; review CPP for initial start‑up and risk assessments.
- Conduct safety audits on a regular basis to monitor progress and statutory compliance on site, with monthly reporting.
- Implement near‑miss and accident reporting mechanisms and databases in line with client process.
- Support continual improvement programme; promote lessons‑learnt sessions for the Project Team to improve engagement and H&S awareness at all levels.
- NEBOSH Diploma or Construction Certificate (or higher) or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience acting as CDM Principal Designer on medium to large projects.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider construction health and safety legislation.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with ability to lead meetings and engage confidently with clients, designers, and contractors.
- Proficient in preparing pre‑construction information, design risk registers, and Health and Safety Files (CDM Documentation).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management and organisation.
- Degree or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline or civil engineering.
- Experience with National Grid Transmission in the capacity of Principal Design Representative, or a comparable role within a similar sector.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, APS, RIBA, ICE, CIOB, CABE).
