Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy and growing building services consultancy in Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity to lead mechanical engineering design projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial sectors.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll have autonomy over your work, manage multi-disciplinary projects, mentor junior engineers, and help shape the technical direction of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design and engineering on projects from concept through to completion
Prepare and review detailed calculations, specifications, and design documentation
Produce high-quality drawings and BIM/Revit models
Manage project deliverables including design risk assessments, client liaison, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams
Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers
Ensure designs comply with UK standards and regulations (CIBSE, Building Regulations, Part L)
Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and sustainability trends
Contribute to business development and maintain strong client relationships

Skills & Experience

Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
Typically 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services consultancy
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, cooling, and renewable technologies
Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical calculation tools
Proven ability to manage projects and lead design teams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainable design principles
Chartered status (CEng, MCIBSE) preferred but not essential
