Location: Cardiff and Barry (Based in Cardiff)
Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00
  • Friday: 07:30 – 15:00

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our engineering team in Cardiff, replacing a long‑standing team member who is retiring in September. This is a hands‑on role supporting the smooth operation of the port’s critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and breakdown response across the Cardiff site
  • Working on heavy plant equipment, cranes, lock gate infrastructure, and bridges
  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently, with accurate reporting
Please note:

You must be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces, including accessing cranes and lock bridge areas.

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience in heavy plant maintenance and repair
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics systems
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (e.g., cranes, lock bridges)
  • Hands‑on approach with excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience in heavy industry environments such as steelworks, quarries, or manufacturing
  • Strong commitment to health and safety practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close‑knitted team
  • Flexible to travel occasionally to Barry as required
