Youth Physical Development Centre Strength and Conditioning Coach

To help maintain our standing as a World‑Renowned Centre for youth strength and conditioning, we’re looking for a Youth Physical Development Centre Strength and Conditioning Coach to design and deliver after‑school strength and conditioning sessions to young athletes from a range of sports. You will support the physical, athletic, and personal development of children through safe, evidence‑informed coaching, robust fitness testing, and professional engagement with parents, partners, and stakeholders.

You’ll play a key role in:

  • Delivering engaging, age‑and developmentally appropriate strength and conditioning sessions for children with a range of sporting backgrounds and needs.
  • Planning, delivering, analysing, and reporting fitness assessments to inform athlete development and progression.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with current safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety legislation.
  • Providing an exceptional standard of customer care when working with children, parents, and external partners.
  • Mentoring and supporting undergraduate students through applied, work‑based learning opportunities.
  • Contributing to the wider impact of the Centre through staff training, CPD delivery, and your own continued professional development.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll bring strong expertise in strength and conditioning, ideally within a youth physical development setting, alongside a sound understanding of pedagogy and athlete development. You’ll be confident designing and delivering age‑and maturity‑appropriate programmes, adapting sessions to meet the needs of different athletes and teams.

You’ll be comfortable working with monitoring and testing data to inform programme design and progression, and able to review and adapt plans in collaboration with the coaching team. You’ll also demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding, professionalism, and high‑quality practice when working with children.

You’ll Also Have

  • A good honours degree and a recognised strength and conditioning qualification (e.g. UKSCA, NSCA, BWL, or equivalent), or a professionally accredited undergraduate degree.
  • The ability to collect, interpret, and apply physical performance and training‑load data.

We are a values‑based University. We are proud of our culture, and we are there for our people. Our community spirit is the golden thread that underpins our values and behaviours. We support and embrace inclusion that enables everyone to feel respected and able to perform at their best. By joining our University, you’ll find yourself in a unique environment where a wealth of knowledge and resources are readily available, supporting you with your career development.

  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous monthly contributions.
  • Excellent family‑friendly policies – take a look on our Policy Hub page.
  • Opportunities to learn and develop your skills with access to library and digital services facilities.
  • Excellent sports and fitness facilities with subsidised membership.
  • Free family access to our independent specialist wellbeing support provider, Health Assured.
