The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated ENT surgeons working to provide excellent patient care. Areas of special interest will be welcomed, particularly head & neck & otology.

On‑call duties 1 in 5; attendance at monthly ENT meetings, including governance, morbidity and mortality, and education, is expected.

This is a replacement post following the planned retirement of a senior surgeon.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a team of five surgeons, mainly based at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, with sessions at other units (Whitehaven, Workington, Penrith). On‑call duties are at Cumberland Infirmary.

The team is well‑motivated and cohesive, with a well‑developed TNO service and recent introduction of transnasal laryngeal biopsies in OPD. The programme of support for each doctor will be flexible based on individual needs and experience.

There is a strong emphasis on training: the Trust has received national awards for excellence in training and offers robust support, mentorship, and development for all staff, with regular multidisciplinary meetings.

Our location provides services not normally found in hospitals of our size, including major head & neck cases and free‑flap surgery.
