We are looking for a skilled and experienced individual to take on the role of the Band 8a maternity leave cover for a 12‑month period covering both Women and Children’s and Medicine. This dual role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills and a keen ability to manage complex patient flow processes across both speciality areas.

The successful candidate will oversee clinical pharmacy services to the Women and Children’s and Medical directorate, ensuring the highest standards of care, patient experience and operational effectiveness across medical, maternity, gynaecology, sexual health, neonatal and paediatric services.

As a clinical expert, the pharmacist will:

  • Deliver specialist pharmaceutical care and advice.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy service to Women and Children’s and Medical wards at GGH.
  • Participate in consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Practice as an independent prescriber within scope of expertise, supporting patient‑centred care and timely medication access.
  • Conduct medication reviews and contribute to patient education and discharge planning.
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based policies, procedures and prescribing guidelines aligned with national and local frameworks.
  • Monitor and analyse drug expenditure across the Directorates, identify cost‑saving opportunities and promote cost‑effective prescribing practices.
  • Contribute to the education and training of pharmacy staff, medical staff, nursing teams and other healthcare professionals within the directorate.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of pharmacy students, trainee pharmacists and foundation pharmacists during clinical rotations.
  • Supervise junior staff in quality improvement and audit activities.
  • Manage outpatient prescriptions for complex conditions including oncology, haematology, inflammatory bowel disease and palliative care.

Hywel Dda University Health Board provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and bordering counties. The Board has over 13,000 staff and offers primary, community, in‑hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with local authorities and other care providers.

Our Services Are Provided In:

  • Four main hospitals:
    Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth;
    Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen;
    Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli;
    Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
  • Five community hospitals:
    Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire;
    Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion;
    Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire.
  • Two integrated care centres:
    Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings.
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers.
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post;
