Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) in Glangwili General Hospital. The CDU comprises 24 beds and an Ambulatory Care Unit with 6 chairs. Patients with a wide range of medical problems present to the CDU to be assessed and treated. This role offers a chance to develop new skills and gain managerial experience, ensuring a high standard of care and working closely with a multidisciplinary team in a positive environment.
Main Duties of the Job
- Combine excellent clinical practice with day‑to‑day shift coordination.
- Undertake leadership and management responsibilities in support of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Support and work in conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Provide supervisory management and leadership skills in a complex, pressurised clinical environment.
- Assist the nursing team members and support junior colleagues in direct care provision.
- Lead and role‑model in the development and mentorship of new and existing staff.
- Demonstrate the Health Board's values in all work activities.
Welsh language is desirable;
English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome. Interviews will be held on 06/02/2026.
Qualifications and Knowledge
- Registered Nurse (Part
1) - Current NMC Registration
- Bachelor degree (or equivalent experience)
- Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development and a willingness to undertake appropriate postgraduate diploma level study)
- Bronze IQT
Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Recognised management qualification
Experience
- Appropriate experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty.
- Knowledge of NMC Code (2015).
- Experience working in a multi‑professional environment.
- Experience running a ward/area/department.
- Experience working with pre‑registration nursing / midwifery students.
- Experience of formal/informal teaching and mentoring of pre‑registration nursing or midwifery students.
- Understanding of wider nursing and health care agenda.
- IT skills.
- Supervisory management skills.
- Ability to relate theory into practice.
Desirable Experience
- Experience of coordinating a team.
- Experience of facilitating learning in and from practice.
- Previous experience of leadership and management.
- Awareness of current issues in nursing and specialty.
- Awareness of financial and resource management.
Language Skills
- Welsh speaker (Level
1)
Other Requirements
Disclosure and Barring Service Check will be required. The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. The Health Board offers support for staff to meet Welsh language requirements. Applications requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship will be considered.
