J National Contractors | Dallas, TX | Full-Time, In-Office
About J National Contractors
J National Contractors is a growing, multi-location commercial service and construction company headquartered in Dallas, with operations in Houston and San Antonio. We provide plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, restoration, and construction services.
We are looking for a sharp, highly organized, and resourceful Senior Accounting Specialist to join our Dallas accounting team.
Position Overview
We are looking for an accounting problem-solver — someone who enjoys digging into numbers, finding discrepancies, organizing financial information, and making sure everything adds up.
This is a hands-on accounting position, not a management role. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift.
We need someone who doesn't just process transactions but understands what they're looking at, asks the right questions, and takes initiative to resolve issues.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Reconciliations- Perform bank, credit card, vendor, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Research and resolve discrepancies, unmatched transactions, and accounting inconsistencies.
- Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.
- Assist with reconciling customer balances, payments, credits, and outstanding invoices.
- Investigate billing discrepancies and unapplied payments.
- Review vendor invoices, statements, and payment records for accuracy.
- Identify duplicate charges, missing invoices, and incorrect allocations.
- Support the accounting team with AP and AR reporting and account cleanup.
- Review labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and other job-related costs.
- Help ensure expenses are accurately allocated to the correct jobs and locations.
- Investigate discrepancies between operational records and accounting systems.
- Work with internal departments to obtain missing information and resolve accounting issues.
- Prepare and maintain Excel spreadsheets, reconciliations, and accounting reports.
- Assist with identifying accounting errors, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Help streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy.
- Support accounting workflows and data accuracy as the company transitions to Service Titan.
- Take ownership of assigned accounting projects and follow through to resolution.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of hands-on accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, AP, AR, and reconciliations.
- Excellent Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and working with large datasets.
- Experience with Quick Books or similar accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable researching and resolving accounting discrepancies independently.
- Experience in construction, contracting, or service-based businesses is a plus.
- Service Titan experience is a plus but not required.
- Is a natural problem-solver. You enjoy figuring out why numbers don't match and won't stop until you find the answer.
- Has an eye for detail. You catch things others overlook.
- Takes initiative. You don't wait to be told what needs fixing.
- Is resourceful. You know how to investigate, research, and find solutions.
- Works with urgency. You are efficient without sacrificing accuracy.
- Is a team player. You collaborate well and are willing to jump in wherever needed.
- Takes ownership. You follow tasks through to completion.
- Is comfortable with technology. You learn systems quickly and know how to use Excel to work smarter.
You’ll be part of a growing company with a busy accounting department, diverse operations, and opportunities to contribute to meaningful improvements in our financial processes.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys a challenge, and wants to make a real impact.
