Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: 3PL Manager
Location: City Of London

Octopus Energy is scaling fast - and as we expand our product range (heat pumps, solar, radiators, EV chargers), we’re transforming how we work with our logistics partners.

We’re looking for a commercially minded, outcome-driven 3PL Manager to own the performance, cost, and continuous improvement of all third-party logistics partnerships across Octopus’ network - spanning inbound, storage, fulfilment, and distribution. You’ll ensure our partners deliver operational excellence, cost efficiency, and sustainability through data-led insight, strong governance, and open-book collaboration.

This role sits at the intersection of supplier performance, commercial strategy, and operational delivery - driving accountability and continuous improvement across multiple logistics partners.

It’s an exciting opportunity for someone who loves combining commercial acumen, data, and collaboration to deliver measurable impact across a fast-moving, purpose-driven supply chain.

Primary operating location

One of the primary operating locations for this role will be our Harlow site. Expect a weekly on-site visit to stay close to partner operations. Octopus follows a flexible working policy, so wider working patterns can be arranged around business needs.

What you'll do
  • Operational Delivery & Daily Efficiency
  • Be on the ground with our 3PL partners to understand real-time challenges and workflows.
  • Observe loading, routing, and site activities to validate processes and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise and act as the point of escalation for urgent service failures.
  • Lead root-cause investigations on missed slots, delivery failures, damages, and system issues.
  • Work with drivers, planners, and warehouse teams to unblock issues quickly and prevent repeat failures.
  • Ensure day-to-day execution consistently meets agreed SLAs and service standards.
Performance & Governance
  • Manage the performance framework for all 3PL partners, including MBRs/QBRs, KPI reviews, and SLA governance.
  • Drive accountability and continuous improvement through clear action tracking and follow-up.
  • Lead open-book cost and performance reviews with Procurement and Finance.
Commercial & Strategic Delivery
  • Track and deliver cost-to-serve improvements across all 3PL activities (inbound, storage, fulfilment, outbound).
  • Support contract reviews, commercial escalations, and supplier negotiations.
  • Collaborate on strategic projects such as route optimisation, utilisation, network design, and storage efficiency.
  • Develop risk and capacity plans to ensure operational resilience and scalability.
Data & Insight
  • Build and maintain reporting tools that enhance visibility of OTIF, SLA compliance, cost, and sustainability metrics.
  • Translate data into actionable insights and share across the wider supply-chain team.
Collaboration & Improvement
  • Coordinate cross-functional input (Ops, Finance, Procurement, CI, Planning) into performance reviews and projects.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
  • Promote a culture of partnership, transparency, and innovation across all logistics providers.
What you'll need
  • Demonstrated experience managing 3PL or carrier relationships end-to-end across multiple service areas.
  • Proven track record in performance management, cost optimisation, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills — confident using data to drive decisions.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Finance, Procurement, and Operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
  • Comfortable operating at all levels — from warehouse floor to leadership presentations.
  • Familiarity with logistics systems, reporting tools (Excel, Power BI), and collaboration platforms (Slack, SharePoint).
  • Strong understanding of open-book principles, SLA design, and continuous improvement.
  • Excited by fast-paced growth, complex problem-solving, and creating structure within scale-up environments.
