Location: Mozambique or South Africa
Duration: 4 weeks
Start Dates: Start dates are each month; enquire with us when applying.
Cost: $3,900 USD per month
Fee Includes: all food, accommodation, pre‑departure + in‑country support, orientation and all project related activities
Does Not Include: flights, travel insurance, personal spending, visas and vaccinations.

Program Overview

The project is an environmental and media company focusing on bringing attention to environmental issues specific to Africa, seeking authentic perspectives. The course uses dSLR cameras in Sea‑Housing, Panasonic HVX
200, GoPros, lighting and accessories to film the stunning coral reefs of the Indian Ocean.

The training syllabus includes direct tutorship, practical underwater photographic expeditions, practical cultural photographic expeditions, free‑diving training, and theoretical plus practical tuition for digital workflow and post‑processing.

Underwater photographic expeditions

  • Month‑long students will partake in 20 expeditions: 2 pool‑based focusing on human models; 16 concentrate on photographing local marine wildlife.

Cultural photographic expeditions

  • Students will partake in 2 cultural expeditions: one water/surf‑based focusing on human models; one focuses on photographing local village life.

Free diving training

  • 4 underwater free‑diving expeditions: 1 pool‑based to focus on breath‑hold techniques; open‑water expeditions to photograph marine wildlife and models.

Digital Workflow & Post‑Processing

  • Workshops on Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premiere specifically geared to underwater photographers.
  • Creative ideas for UW specialists.
  • How to correctly keyword your images in Lightroom and on stock sites.

Daily routine

Vary between diving and photographing/videographing, tutoring in photography and video techniques, free diving, and processing and editing photographs. Program runs weekdays only; weekends offer activities + tours or relaxation.
