About the Position
Applications are invited for a Trust Doctor (eqv to ST1-3) in Neonatal Medicine (Senior House Officer) level to start in March 2026. The post is based in the large tertiary medico‑surgical neonatal unit at the Royal London Hospital. It comes with an active academic programme and opportunities to participate in high‑quality audit and quality improvement projects. Clinical Fellows are supported by the same educational programmes, training and teaching undertaken by Deanery‑approved specialist training doctors.
The work schedule follows a full shift system subject to regular compliance monitoring.
The obstetric service performs over 5000 deliveries per annum, most of which are to families resident in Tower Hamlets, an area of high socio‑economic deprivation with a rising birth rate. There is a high incidence of consanguinity with resultant congenital anomalies, and gestational diabetes contributes to significant neonatal morbidity. The Trust’s large adult renal unit attracts tertiary antenatal referrals, and neonatal surgery places further demand on the team.
Responsibilities- Training in the use of specialised intensive care unit and transfer equipment – ventilation including all forms of invasive and non‑invasive respiratory support, therapeutic cooling and inhaled nitric oxide
- Consultant‑led ward rounds
- Registrar‑led ward rounds dependent on experience
- Practical supervision
- Topic teaching three times per week
- Dedicated X‑ray meeting
- Training in cranial ultrasound, echocardiography and cerebral function monitoring
- General neonatal and specialist clinics (neuro‑developmental, respiratory, cardiology, genetics)
Eligibility for GMC registration with licence to practice is essential. Prior experience in neonatal medicine is desirable. Applications are welcome from those who require GMC sponsorship via the RCPCH MTI scheme.
