Role Overview – Lead Mechanical Technician We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Mechanical Technician (LMech) to oversee the safe and effective delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance activities across a critical environment. This includes supervising both internal technicians and subcontractors.
This hands-on supervisory role requires participation in a shift rota and active involvement in day-to-day operations. The Lead Mechanical Technician will ensure technical excellence, safety compliance, and optimal team performance across all mechanical systems on site.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as deputy to the Technical Services Supervisor (TSS) when required.
• Participate in emergency escalation protocols and provide out-of-hours technical support
  .
• Ensure all team members and contractors adhere to safe systems of work
  , including RAMS, LOTO, and Permit to Work procedures.
• Maintain required site certifications and act as an Authorised Person (AP) as appointed.
• Lead by example in upholding technical standards
  , professionalism, and safety culture.

Maintenance & Engineering

• Oversee and perform routine and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and critical infrastructure.
• Diagnose and repair faults efficiently, escalating complex issues when necessary.
• Coordinate task scheduling with the Digi Hub/Helpdesk and liaise with end users for access and timing.
• Ensure all maintenance works, including those performed by subcontractors, meet engineering standards and industry best practices

• Support small-scale project works and asset replacement tasks as directed.

Team & Stakeholder Management

• Allocate technician and subcontractor resources effectively to meet operational deadlines and service quality.
• Promote a team culture focused on safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement

• Foster strong working relationships with clients, engineers, and external vendors.
• Mentor and support the professional development of technicians and apprentices
  .

Reporting & Compliance

• Provide regular progress and issue reports to the TSS, highlighting resource needs or operational challenges.
• Ensure all activities are logged accurately in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Adhere to all regulatory compliance and internal engineering standards
  .
• Complete all assigned training requirements and maintain up-to-date technical competencies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education & Training

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Valid Authorised Person (AP) certification (desirable).

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience.
• Previous work in a critical or high-reliability environment is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.

IT & Systems

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with CMMS platforms for task tracking and asset management.
