Key Job Responsibilities

  • Represent AWS in ensuring on time and on budget execution of Amazon projects while strategically improving processes, costs, quality, H&S, and sustainability performance.
  • Lead and mentor large cross functional teams as an expert technical and project management resource to complete construction projects and motivate people at all levels.
  • Drive critical communication across departments and to front line and executive level managers while serving as an authority on project issues.
  • Identify gaps in project plans, propose solutions, and leverage tools and experience to improve outcomes.
  • Negotiate terms of contracts with developers, contractors, and consultants representing AWS interests; perform site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract/lease and cost negotiations, stakeholder and vendor management.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for feasibility evaluation of potential future projects and pre development actions, tracking issues to ensure resolution.
  • Lead negotiations with general contractors and internal procurement partners; evaluate bids, proposals, and claims, report key construction/commercial metrics including schedule, cost and budget.
  • Review and provide input into global standards and data center template designs.
  • Support complex, cross functional data center projects from site selection, permitting and contract execution; keep stakeholders informed and build trust.
  • Maintain scope progress by driving crisp, timely decisions, clearing blockers, and escalating appropriately.
  • Collaborate with real estate, design engineering, construction, finance, architects, engineers, permitting agencies, developers and landlords to secure resources, scope infrastructure builds, set priorities and milestones.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals, participating in pricing reviews for scope inclusions/exclusions and negotiating cost of work with developers, contractors and design consultants.
  • Evaluate due diligences, schedule tracking and solve factors that may impede a successful permitted project hand over to Amazon stakeholders.
  • Institute and maintain the highest standards, drive accountability, coach and hold and/or discipline external and internal team members as necessary.
About the Team

The EMEA Data Center Construction team is a global group responsible for building Amazon owned sites. Pre Construction Managers lead the creation and delivery of innovative products, supporting design standards across regional programs and producing high quality, consistent documentation for processes, standards and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Professional fluency in Arabic, German and English.
  • Extensive experience in mission critical facilities (design, pre construction, scheduling, construction and commissioning) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of civil, electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of critical data center equipment (generators, UPS, chillers, fire suppression, HVAC, etc.).
  • Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in construction site management, including negotiations with general contractors, and bids, proposals, and claims evaluation.
  • Professional certifications such as CCM, PMP, AC or CPC.
  • Additional language skills are appreciated.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction project management, architecture, engineering, related field or equivalent trade certification.
