Volunteer Punjabi Speaking Family and Carer

Overview

We are seeking Punjabi speaking Family and Carer Support Volunteers.

Substance misuse issues can have a huge impact on everyone, especially the family, friends and loved ones of those misusing alcohol/drugs. Loved ones can be left feeling angry, hurt, isolated, stigmatised and ashamed.

It can be overwhelming for those affected by someone’s substance misuse to take the first step and ask for help, as a family and carer volunteer you will be using your own experiences of living with / supporting someone with substance misuse issues to promote hope and support to others. You will be providing them with a safe, non-judgmental friendly space where they can express their anxieties and share their experiences.

• You will be working closely with the Recovery Workers to identify those carers who may benefit from additional support.
• You will take the lead on creating a support group, encouraging members to get involved and have a say in how the group can meet their needs.
• You will be a positive role model to the group motivating, encouraging them to gain resilience to support themselves and their families
• You will be provided with all the skills, training and support you will need to undertake the role.
• We will support you in this volunteering role by ensuring that you receive regular supervision, Reflective Practice / Clinical Supervision and have a Team member on site who you can approach for day-to-day advice and guidance.

Please note be considered for this volunteering role we require you to be

• 18 years of age or older
• Able to commit to a minimum of two days a week.
• Subject to a (CGL funded) Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level.
