Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP

We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse/ODP to work in Tower, Nuffield and Lambeth theatres, in the recovery, admissions, ambulatory and discharge lounges. The post holder is responsible for assessment of the perioperative care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation without direct supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Admit surgical patients
  • Scrub/Circulate in operating theatres
  • Recover post operative patients
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team in the ambulatory and post-operative lounge
  • Co-ordinate theatre lists and departmental duties
  • Support Trust initiatives/ Quality Improvement and Audit
  • Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals
  • Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards
  • Take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well being and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that all information systems are maintained
  • Undertake physical observations (blood pressure, temperature, respiration, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height) and report exceptions
  • Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products
  • Support senior staff and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of practice and staff development as part of the theatre team
  • Perform tasks of scrub assistant following all checks and procedures as laid down in National/Theatre Policy
  • Provide safe care throughout patient journey from admission through to theatres, recovery and discharge
  • Mentor staff and act as mentor with senior colleagues in continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff
  • Carry out all relevant documentation without direct supervision and demonstrate procedures in place to support safe patient care
  • Flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified as appropriate to knowledge and training
