About the Role and our Ideal Candidate
In this role you will:
- Work with young people who have been to court and given a post court order or gone into custody meeting the statutory requirements of the order, keeping up‑to‑date case notes and breaching when and if required.
- You will attend court on behalf of the Youth Justice team making recommendations and producing court reports of a high standard.
- You will carry out holistic assessments on the child and family, creating an intervention plan to meet their needs.
- You will risk assess and work with the family and victims to ensure safer communities and reduce the risk of reoffending.
- You will have a caseload of prevention cases for children who are on the periphery of criminalisation where you will work with them and their family to build a relationship and support the child with their needs.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children and their families to make a difference and enable behaviour change. You will be able to engage with vulnerable and challenging young people who are resistant to change and use innovative approaches to get them and their families to engage. You will be highly organised and able to write reports and assessments to a high standard in line with guidelines and needs of the service.
The team is very supportive and we are looking for someone who is a team player and able to support others across their roles as needed.
About UsSutton Youth Justice Team is a child first, energised service which works with a range of young people and families in the borough with the focus of improving outcomes and life chances for them. The service sits alongside the Adolescent service working with complex families in a trauma informed approach working to build trusting relationships to enable behaviour change.
The team is small but benefits from a range of specialist workers which will support the social worker to work with the child and family. We benefit from an in‑house CAMHS worker, Speech and Language therapist, School nurse, substance misuse worker, Education worker and access to the Therapeutic Hub.
The team is well supported through regular group supervisions as well as a fully embedded training programme for all staff and opportunities to professional development along the way.
