Job DescriptionThe HATS Group is the UK's foremost private healthcare provider, excelling in patient‑centric transport services with an 'Outstanding' rating for Responsiveness from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC was established under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as an independent regulator, responsible for the registration, inspection and monitoring of health and social care providers. HATS Group is a provider of private ambulances, a service regulated by the CQC, and also regulated by Local Authorities for services delivered under SEND.
With a fleet of over 800 vehicles, we support various public and private healthcare institutions, delivering over 2,000,000 passenger movements annually.
The Role
Job purpose: A PSV Company bus driver is responsible for driving a passenger‑carrying vehicle (PCV) and providing good customer service and a safe and comfortable journey throughout the network of HATS buses.

- Ensure safety and wellbeing of clients throughout the journey and handover.
- Ensure high‑visibility PPE is worn in vehicle movement areas.
- Observe speed limits within bus depots and school premises.
- Carry out a safety walk‑round check before commencing service.
- Report any defect in the vehicle or equipment to the appropriate person as soon as possible.
- Complete the Vehicle Defect Card or enter the defect on the electronic ticket machine.
- Ensure the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting service.
- Comply with laws and company regulations regarding the use of mobile phones, smoking in company vehicles, and use of prohibited equipment (e.g., gaming consoles) whilst on duty.
- Report all safety, security, driving and customer service incidents to the line manager as soon as possible.
- Report all safety accidents/incidents using the company’s reporting procedure.
- Understand emergency and evacuation plans.
- Maintain the bus cab area in a safe and tidy condition.
- Provide a high standard of customer service.
- Give customers any information that may help them during their journey (e.g., road closures, diversions).
- Behave in a friendly and professional manner to customers and colleagues.
- Recognise and assist with additional needs of children and vulnerable adults, the elderly, infirm or disabled.
- Drive the company’s vehicles safely, legally and professionally.
- Adhere to the set timetable, avoiding running early or late when safe.
- Keep up to date with road closures, diversions or special events which may affect the service.
- Hold a valid driving licence and CPC licence, available for inspection by staff.
- Their driver's licence has a D1 category with no restrictions and a CPC licence in date and valid for the vehicle type they are driving.
- The licence has the required medical renewals up to date.
- Any change to the licence that may affect their entitlement to drive is communicated to their line manager (e.g., sickness, injury or conviction).
- The licence is made available for inspection every 6 months.
- Report for work at the correct time and location with the correct equipment.
- Follow the company dress code, always observed when on duty.
- Do not report for work when overtired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs (see company policy for further details).
- Follow notification procedures when absent from work.
- Report all incidents on the road that may affect service as soon as it is safe to do so.
- Participate in a yearly appraisal.
- Provide feedback ideas about how services can be improved to the line manager.
- Ensure adherence to all HATS policies and procedures.
- Undertake any reasonable request made by the company.
Participate in working flexible hours with general core working hours between 07:00 – 09:00 and 14:30 – 16:30. Undertake additional work as the service needs dictate. The jobholder follows instructed daily and weekly work schedules and is required to report to the Controller where incidents or problems occur.
