Senior Engineer - Marine Structural (Durban, Centurion, Cape Town)
AECOM’s Enterprise Capabilities team is looking for a Senior Engineer - Marine Structural to join our team in Durban, Centurion, or Cape Town offices.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Senior Engineer - Marine Structural to support the design and assessment of coastal and offshore infrastructure, including wharves, jetties, caissons, breakwaters, and floating structures. The role focuses on structural design under complex loading conditions—wave, current, berthing, seismic—and requires coordination with geotechnical, coastal, and marine disciplines.
Responsibilities- Lead structural design of marine infrastructure using relevant codes (e.g., BS, Eurocode, API, PIANC)
- Perform static and dynamic structural analysis, including wave and berthing impact loads
- Evaluate corrosion protection, fatigue performance, and structural detailing for marine environments
- Coordinate with geotechnical engineers on foundation design (piles, caissons, gravity structures)
- Prepare design reports, specifications, and construction documentation
- Support tendering, fabrication review, and site construction queries
- Develop and implement quality assurance procedures for marine structural designs
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex marine projects
- Collaborate with environmental specialists to ensure designs meet sustainability requirements
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for marine structures
- Participate in client meetings and present technical solutions
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in marine structural engineering
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with local and international maritime standards
- Develop and maintain best practice guidelines for marine structural engineering within the organisation
- Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations
- Oversee the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in marine structural design projects
- At least 10 years’ experience post obtaining qualification.
- Professionally registered with ECSA as Pr.Eng. for at least 3 years.
- Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural), preferably M.Eng or MSc.Eng.
